Nina Strnad is a promising Slovenian jazz singer with an amazing talent. I met Nina last year, on the set for Gloss magazine’s article on young talents. She immediately impressed me with her charisma and great energy. Back then we only made one portrait, so it was great working with her again!
We shot her new promotional photos in a studio in Ljubljana, with stylist Živa Strnad and make-up artist Ana Lazovski. The idea was to capture Nina’s personality in a series of energetic, upbeat photos. Not too hard to do, since that’s exactly the person she is! I’m sure we’ll hear a lot more from Nina.

The western-coloured story pictures a girl searching for her lost friend. The inspiration came from a movie trailer, True Grit by the Coen brothers. I was not looking to do a fashion series, but rather a a series of western memoir photos, inspired by parts of the movie.
The scenery was amazing, especially the horse ranch. The model is Barbara from the Croation agency Midikenn. She has worked in fashion capitals across the globe and for clients like Levi’s and Paul Smith.
It was a great day with great people, enriching both my life and my portfolio. A big thanks to everyone who helped this happen!

Misa Molk and Ula Furlan for Jana magazine

There are only a handful of true media legends in Slovenia. Misa Molk is definitely one of them. She is a journalist and a television personality, a producer and an editor. Jana magazine did an interview with her and her daugher, Ula Furlan, who is an up-and-coming Slovenian actress. Misa Molk called me up and asked if I would do the photos for the magazine cover and the article, saying she liked my style of photography.
The photos turned out great, we were all very pleased. I wanted to capture the charisma of both Misa and Ula, together with a moment of intimacy between them. The photos in Vanity Fair magazine were my inspiration this time.

Best advertising photo award! - Sof 2010

The jury of the 19th Slovenian advertising festival (SOF) really made my day on thursday. I was the winner in the Best advertising photo category! :) The photograph was done for the Pattex brand!
And while I did claim the award at the ceremony, I can’t claim all the credit, of course – a lot of it goes to Imelda Ogilvy advertising agency for coming up with the creative and of course for bringing me on board the project in the first place. So this award is as much theirs as it is mine. And it’s great motivation for the future!

Young talents. New hopes. By Gloss.

Gloss, a slovenian fashion & lifestyle magazine, each year selects 15 young, talented people who are each making a difference in their field. Poets, designers, athletes, musicians - creators of all kinds. This is the fourth time I've had the privilege of photographing these young talents. As each comes with their own brand of creativity, the photos needed to reflect that and hint at their area of expertise. Everything was shot over a couple of days in Kolosej and Arena in Ljubljana. I love the outcome, the photos really turned out great. And I also think they succeed in giving away glimpses into each of the young talents creativity.

You can view photos in full-screen gallery.

Mercator magazine covers

Mercator is the largest slovenian commerce chain with hundreds of outlets – from small grocery stores to enormous hypermarkets. They are big. Really big. And as befits a big multinational company, they also have their own internal magazine, called »Casomer« (a very loose translation would be something along the lines of »measuring time«). It's a bi-monthly magazine for all present and retired employees of Mercator. And keeping up with its employee-centric spirit, are also the covers!

Each cover of the magazine features a Mercator employee. This year they were done by me - in a single day we've shot the covers for the whole year, in Mercator stores in Ljutomer and Maribor, the latter also being the winner of Mercator's best store competition. I think the photos turned out great! The photoshoot took place during the working hours, so you can imagine how lively everything was. And fun. Could it be any different, when the store manager treated the team to two big boxes of donuts? ;)

Croatian presidential elections – campaign

Croatia, our neighbour country, was having presidential elections about two weeks ago. Bruketa&Zinic, a great croatian advertising agency, approached the team behind First-Finger.com, a project I’m involved with. They liked our work, and in the end invited me to collaborate on the campaign they were doing for Ivo Josipovic, a presidential candidate of SDP political party. It’s not everyday you get to photograph a (possible) president, so I gladly accepted.

Ivo Josipovic WON, so in the end I really did get to photograph a president! I am going to publish photos from following and photographing Ivo Josipovic for 15 days in next weeks.

Advertising campaign for Telemach

Slovenian advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi invited me to collaborate with them on a project for Telemach, one of the largest slovenian providers of internet and digital TV. The brief: five different motives with a well-known slovenian actress Tjaša Železnik. Telemach is coming out with some improved services, so they wanted each of the five motives to represent that.

Working with Tjaša was great, I really enjoy the photoshoot - it was both fun and productive. I am very satisfied with the end result, the boys and girls at Saatchi&Saatchi did a great job at turning the photos into print ads. One of the advertisements will hit the media in January, so I can't publish it quite yet. But I really enjoy seeing the rest of these ads in action!

I love to travel. And, of course, I love photography. So this August I’ve combined both and made a trip to Thailand! You can see the results in the gallery under the Personal section of my website. Don’t forget to view the photos in full-screen!

The visit was a vacation, and since Thailand is such an amazing country, with beautiful and very friendly people, I just couldn’t resist taking a number of photos for myself. Most of the pictures were shot in the mountains around Chiang Mai, about 700km north of Bangkok.

Also, if you like or even fall in love with a particular photo in the gallery, prints are available. Send me an email, I’ll be happy to give you more information.

Print Ad of the Week on Lürzer's Archive!

The work I did together with advertising agency ImeldaOgilvy recently received some special recognitition – it was selected as the Print Ad for the Week by Luerzer's Archive! Luerzer's Archive is an advertising publication dedicated to selecting and showcasing the best creative advertising from all over the world.

The print ad for Pattex glue brand features an elderly couple that seems to be stuck together for ages – glue, anyone? The pair were really nice to work with. It's always great fun when you have patient and cooperative models at the set! And of course congratulations to the whole team at ImeldaOgilvy for coming up with the award-winning concept. You can see bigger version here: Long lasting glue. Pattex.

Tina Maze and Alpina

Alpina is a well-known brand of sports eyewear and helmets, and also nr.1 in the German market of snow goggles. In Slovenia, their products are sold by ASA Naklo. They wanted to present their new collection in the best possible way. Since skiing is sort of a Slovenian national sport, can you think of a better model than our best skier – Tina Maze, an eight-time FIS race winner and a silver medallist at the 2009 World Championship in Val D’Isere! The photoshoot took place in Tina Maze’s hometown, Črna na Koroškem. I have to say it was quite an honor to work with Tina, not to mention the great athmosphere on the set. I know she doesn’t care much for such titles, but Tina was also selected as the most beautiful participant of the 2006 Olympic Games in Torino, Italy. And for a good reason, too. The photos turned out great! Take a look at my gallery!

Advertisement photography: Abanka

Advertising agency ImeldaOgilvy brought me into their project for Abanka, one of the larger Slovenian banks. The ad’s creative concept revolves around fulfilling one’s wishes. The photoshoot took place late at night on a golf course in Ljubljana. Both models did a great job, and the client is very pleased with the end result - an advertisement for their savings product.

You can see the ad on a number of internet portals as well as in magazines and newspapers. I can say it was a pleasure working for a bank whose customer I am. You can see the photograph in my gallery.

I’ve also photographed Abanka’s Board of Directors for their Annual report.

Mobitel is the leading provider of mobile telecommunication of the Slovenian market. I was very happy to get a chance to work for them. They wanted to use a popular slovenian singer Rebeka Dremelj for latest edition of Business catalogue. You can get this catalogue in Mobitel’s stores in Slovenia.

I am very satisfied with the result and I hope to work more for Mobitel.

Last year I did quite a long photoshoot for Mercator, one of Slovenia's largest companies. They wanted a series of photographs of their employees in their work environment – they were to be used in Mercator’s career/employment portal called M-kariera. The project lasted 6 days and in that time I photographed more than 60 people employed by Mercator.

The photoshootings took place in different Mercator malls and centres in Slovenia and I can say the client was very pleased with the outcome. This was definitely a large and challenging project, but at the same time it was great fun! And a great experience. Check out the photos!

NightFever photoshoot

I was invited to take part in an advertising campaign for a new lifestyle product on the slovenian market, NightFever (www.nightfever.si).

The concept was created by advertising agency Tovarna Vizij and it proved quite a challenge. The photography had to reflect the slogan of the product - "crazy night and fresh morning". As you might have guessed, it's a mix between an energy drink and an anti-hangover (believe it or not, it works!). The models were selected via an online contest - at the end, four people were chosen. The photoshoot had to take place in a studio - the atmosphere was great, we had great fun! There was much fine-tuning and experimenting required, but at the end I was very pleased with the result.

The FWA SOTD award for my website

I'm proud to be able to say my site has won the Favourite Website Award! Two years ago I have received The FWA award for my previous site and web standards have without doubt risen since then. I've wanted the new site to be cutting-edge technically and content-wise, but most of all it had to provide a great user experience through great design. FWA is definitely a recognition of those efforts.

Obviously a lot of the credit goes to DrawingArt - www.drawingart.org for doing such a great job with webdesign and programming.

My website really needed a thorough revamping, which would reflect the progress I've made as a professional in the recent years. After months of hard work I now proudly present my refreshed online presence! It allows much more interaction with you, the visitor, and - the thing I like the most for obvious reasons - a full screen online gallery.

I feel I have in some way achieved both things in my work as - well better relationships with the people I work with and more photography! And I really wished for the site to reflect that.

I hope you like it as much as I do and don't forget to check my promotional video from info page.

I love to travel. No wonder National Geographic was always very special to me. It's travel combined with great photography! And to have been awarded by National Geographic feels nothing less than amazing. I have won an award at National Geographic Slovenia competition, in the portrait section.

The winning photograph was taken in Morocco and pictures a couple in love. It's title is 'A relationship', but perhaps an even better one would be 'Wedding anniversary'.

A friend of mine started this project a while ago. He would write a book. A very special book. A book that would reflect his philosophy that everything is up to you. With more than just words. I strongly believe that as well and am proud to have been able to collaborate on the project with my photos.

Now the book has seen the light of day and you might want to check out the website as well.

It was great working with Katarina Cas, Ica Putrih, Zvezdana Mlakar, Tina Gorenjak. The photoshoot took place on the stage of Spas Teater. Lots of white. Lots of love. Very sexy, to say the least.

A solo exhibition I'm very proud of. It was a great success as well. I have focused on portraying the relationship between a farmer and his land. The photos were taken on a farm near Novo mesto. I have been a regular visitor to the farm for about a week, trying to catch those special moments.

It's all about giving a new perspective on a common, everyday thing - the farmer and his land. As with any relationship, I find this one, too, is worth being immortalized through photography.
